An Eco-Friendly Approach to Giving a Destination Party

Just to clarify, if you're looking for those places that just host children's arcade/carnival style parties, this is not where you want to be. A moe eco-friendly approach to giving a destination party means being more attuned to what your community has to offer, what can educate while entertaining and what does not generate a lot of waste in the process. When selecting an eco-friendly destination party, remember that getting to the party counts so carpool or take public transportation if possible. Remember to keep the group size manageable and enlist the help of other parents to keep the children well supervised. Here are some eco-friendly destination party ideas that will create great memories:
- Zoo Always a favorite. If your city's zoo is too big for the little ones to handle, look for petting zoos or try
- Farm An alternative to a zoo where children can get up close and personal with cows, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens. Also great for the tractor lovers. Especially entertaining in the Fall when pumpkin farms are all dressed up for business. Navigating a maze in a corn field would be great for older kids. Check your area to see if farm tours are available.
- Stables A great option if you have a child who loves horses. Some also have pony rides for the little ones.
- Aquarium Another option to the zoo and there may even be a section just for kids to explore
- Farmer's Markets A great choice to expose children to the variety of seasonal produce. Let them choose what they would like to eat for party food!
- Fire Station Boys and girls will love getting up close to the fire engines and meeting some real life heroes. Make sure you call ahead to find out what regulations they have about visitations.
- Beach or lakeside Take advantage of your locale. Who doesn't love a day at the beach?
- Nursery or garden centers Organic nurseries and gardens are a great way to teach kids about an organic lifestyle. Take home some seedlings they can plant in their own gardens or grow in pots.
- Artist Studioa Find a local artist, potter or glass blower who will demonstrate their craft for the children. Go home with ideas of how the kids can express their own creativity.
- Nature Preserves Do you have a conservation area, nature preserve or wildlife park in your area? Check out our ideas in Outdoor Activities for what to do once you get there.
- Museums It can be a museum of natural history for the prehistoric era buff, a museum of science or any interactive children's museum. You might live in an area with a very unique museum. We have a carousel museum here, perfect for the merry-go-round fans. Just limit the time there according to their age, the younger they are the less time you should plan on being there.
